Case Study: VW T7 Surf Van Conversion
Before, During & After
Our customer brought in a brand-new VW T7 Transporter and wanted to protect the interior before putting it to use. The van will be used regularly at the coast to carry specialist surfboard equipment, so the focus was on durability, moisture control and ease of cleaning.
Salt air and damp conditions can quickly take their toll on a vehicle interior, so this project was all about prevention and practicality from day one.
Before
The T7 arrived straight from the dealership in standard form: uninsulated, unlined and without any interior protection. While perfectly fine for short-term use, this setup isn’t ideal for regular seaside trips, where moisture, salt and sand can cause corrosion, condensation and long-term wear.
During
We began by installing a side window to bring in more natural light and make the interior brighter and more usable.
A full 3-stage soundproofing and insulation package was then fitted throughout, including sound-deadening mats, thermal insulation, and a moisture barrier. This helps control temperature, reduce road noise, and prevent damp build-up (important for any van that carries wet kit).
Next, we lined the walls, ceiling and floor with Legend lining. This provides a tough, easy-to-wipe surface that stands up well to sand and saltwater. Finally, we fitted LED lighting to give clear visibility in the evenings or on darker days.
After
The finished result is a clean, practical setup that’s built to last. The interior is now:
- Fully protected against damp and corrosion
- Easy to keep clean after use at the beach
- Warmer, quieter, and more comfortable
- Brighter and more functional, thanks to the LED lighting
This project shows how simple upgrades can make a big difference to the usability and lifespan of any commercial vehicle, especially those used in tough coastal environments.
